10 Underrated Indie Games you NEED to play!

With so many games releasing each week, there is a ton of indie games getting swept under the radar, and quite frankly, there are so many that deserve way more attention than they’ve had.

So we thought we’d put together some of our fave indies that are underrated and give them a bit of a signal boost.

Final Profit: A Shop RPG

In this fantasy game, you’ll embark on the ultimate quest to save the world from Capitalism. You’ll play as an ex-Fae queen, taking on the Bureau of Business by working her way up the corporate ladder and managing different shops. Combining RPG elements, with a shop management sim, you’ll find yourself exploring a vast and mysterious world, meeting a host of quirky characters, and managing your shop to turn a profit.

This is a game that is absolutely jam packed of hilarious dialogue, intriguing storylines, secrets to uncover and expertly combines shopkeeping and management with an adventurous world.
There’s an upcoming roguelite mode in the works, and a ton of different gameplay options to keep you on your toes, in what is one of my favourite role playing games

Lil' Guardsman

If you’ve ever wanted the power to determine who can enter a city, well this game will let you live out that fantasy.
Lil’ Guardsman sees you become the guard on the gate, covering your dad’s shift and giving a 12 year old girl the ultimate control…what could possibly go wrong?

Utilising some point and click mechanics, you’ll, interrogate would be passers, use a variety of different tools to determine if they’re the real deal, and of course use your observational skills to fish out any flaws in their stories. With a fun fantasy setting, a ton of hilarious dialogue full of pop culture references, and a quirky story too, this is a must play for, well anyone really.

CorpoNation: The Sorting Process

In this game, you’ll play as a cog in the corporate machine, sorting mysterious genetic samples. Set in a futuristic world where companies now own entire states, you’ll live and work an elevator ride away, confined to your room, and at the mercy of the Ringo CorpoNation for all your social, aesthetic, and entertainment needs.

You’ll need to earn enough to pay your bills, as you toe the company line, but this line soon gets a little wonky as you interact with a rogue workers on the forefront of a rebellion. With a mix of puzzle sorting, old school gaming, and a dystopian narrative, this is a game that is perfect for the conspiracy lover.

A Highland Song

Explore the absolutely stunning Scottish Highlands, hop, skip, and climbing your way to the top of mountains in A Highland Song.
This exploration platformer game, sees you play as a 15 year girl running away from home in search of a sight she’s never seen before…the sea

Using dynamic storytelling, this is a game that immerses you in the magic of the highlands, encouraging you to explore even nook and cranny just to see what you can find, and you’ll discover some interesting characters, breathtaking views, and hidden paths along the way. With rhythm sections to navigate featuring some incredible Scottish music, survival mechanics that see you need to rest and keep out of the cold, and a hauntingly beautiful story about persistence, courage, and finding the magic in life, this is an incredible game full of heart.

Unboxing the Cryptic Killer

In this co-op detective game, you and your partner will each see a different part of the puzzle – literally seeing different things on your screen. You’ll need to work together to figure out a range of different puzzles, and time is of the essence because the Cryptic Killer is on your tail

This point and click puzzler will challenge even the best of detectives, featuring a range of different types of puzzles, each with their own unique flavour, and each requiring a decent dose of teamwork to solve. Crack the case, and you might just make it out with your lives, in what is a pretty great detective game to play with a friend.

Clickyland

Enter a world where clicks are your main resource in Clickyland. This tower defense game, sees you use clicks to harvest resources, fight enemies and manage your village, but you clicks are limited, so you’ll need to be careful how you use them.

Clear enemies to reveal more of the map, and face progressively stronger ones on each run as you attempt to get the most out of your limited clicks. Earn coins from each run to spend in the shop to unlock more clicks, and other handy upgrades, as you attempt to survive 100 days in Clickyland

Ark of Charon

In this game you’ll build a fortress on the back of a giant and mysterious walking tree. Ark of Charon merges tower defense with a colony sim, where you’ll gather resources, and build your colony around the new sapling, protecting it from monsters who will attack you relentlessly.

You’ll unlock new tech to help you on your journey, and building up your defenses, manufacturing ammo and stockpiling items will be paramount to your success. Will you be able to protect the next World Tree?

Paper Trail

Step into the shoes of Paige, a girl with the ability to fold the world to her will – quite literally – in Paper Trail. This adventure puzzle game uses origami style puzzles, requiring you to fold the world in different ways to navigate through each level.

You’ll explore a variety of colourful world environments, each with their own quirky characters and challenges, as you venture across the pages of this vibrant world. This is a game that is perfect for the cozy puzzler, and is one of my all time favourite puzzle games

Pixel Cafe

Time management lovers, this one’s for you. Pixel Cafe sees you play as Pixel, a young adult just trying to make ends meet in an unforgiving world. Blending a visual novel with arcade style levels, you’ll work at various different cafes, serving up coffee, food and more to your customers all in a timely manner, but working a real job isn’t as easy as it seems.

You’ll be immersed in a captivating coming-of-age story, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and perseverance as you work towards your goals, and try to overcome the challenges thrown your way. This is an amazing, but challenging, time management game with an edgy pixel art style, that is perfect for management sim lovers.

Arco

In this game, you’ll battle monstrous creatures, go up against rival nations, and take on greedy colonisers. Arco is a fantasy RPG that combines real time and turn-based combat with a rich story

You’ll play as four different heroes, who’s stories all intertwine, choosing whether to take the peaceful path or the violent one in each interaction. With your narrative choices having an impact on the combat style, this is a stunning handcrafted world, and did I mention it also has Llamas?
