Story

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure has a pretty quirky story that really hits a lot of familiar notes about growing up. You play as Jemma, a young girl desperate to escape her tiny town and go on a big adventure. Found as a baby with nothing more than a strange symbol, Jemma is determined to find her parents and uncover her past. Leaving won’t be as simple as it seems, as a mysterious static force has taken the world captive, making certain objects immovable in an otherwise fluid world.

You’ll navigate through the world, visiting different towns, meeting people, and completing quests. What stands out in Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is the quirky characters and dialogue. The story is funny, relatable, and well-written, with underlying themes about identity and belonging that resonate with young people. So, for story, we’re rating Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure as Buzzed.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay of Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is where the game truly shines. Using a unique grid-based navigation system, you’ll be thrown back into your childhood days playing slider puzzles, but instead of making a picture, you’re just trying to get around. As you move, the world moves with you, with each row or column shifting depending on your direction. You can jump from one end of a row or column to another if nothing blocks your way, a mechanic you’ll need to master to navigate the world.

Items affected by the static force are immovable, so you’ll often need to get creative in how you move around. Objects also move with you, requiring you to manipulate the grids to your advantage. You’ll also encounter monsters and need to maneuver swords to defeat them.

The gameplay took us by surprise. We hated those slider puzzles as kids, but we loved the grid-based movement in Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure. The game cleverly weaves puzzle-solving into the gameplay without it being overly obvious, and the puzzle sections feel like a natural part of the story. This is a great combo of adventure RPG and puzzle gameplay. So, for gameplay, we’re rating Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure as Fully Caffeinated.

DESIGN

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure has a unique, quirky design style. The hand-drawn, almost paper-like art style uses layering to create depth in the 2D environment. It’s a cool, well-thought-out design that adds depth to the game. So, for design, we’re rating Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure as Fully Caffeinated.
