Story
Puzzle games aren’t often massive on story, but Linkito has a decent narrative backbone. The story sees you step into the shoes of a new engineer at Albatross Technologies. The game is set in a futuristic world where corruption and corporate greed are at their highest, with your position in the company a result of a lottery draw to give the poor a chance at a better life.
As you work through the different levels and fix things for the company, rebellion is stirring, and you’ll need to complete different tasks both to complete your job and gather intel. The story of the game is pretty interesting. It definitely drives the gameplay and gives you an insight into the Linkito world. So, for story, I’m rating Linkito as Buzzed.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay of Linkito is where this game really shines. Each level is a different puzzle to solve in the form of a mechanism-based brainteaser. You’ll start off with relatively simple circuits that you need to connect power through, working your way up to complex levels with different mechanics. You’ll connect different switches, navigate circuits with timers, bridge connections to double your power, and more as you navigate the different levels.
There are certain levels that see you need to defuse bombs before they explode, but otherwise, time is not really a factor in the game, so you can solve logic-based puzzles at your own pace. Robots also make an appearance in the game, with cool levels seeing you use robots to transmit information.
There’s a decent amount of levels to play through, and you can create custom levels too, so there’s a lot there in terms of gameplay. It definitely has some challenging puzzles in there that will keep you on your toes. So, for gameplay, I’m rating Linkito as Fully Caffeinated.
DESIGN
Linkito has a pretty interesting design style. The game is set in the future but has an old-timey kind of vibe to the design, which creates a really interesting game atmosphere. The different puzzle elements are all designed well, giving you clear indications as to what they do, and they really used lighting well to add some drama to the game. The soundtrack and sound effects work really well with the design style to add to the game’s atmosphere and create a really cool and interesting almost secret agent feel to the game. The design is executed really well. So, for design, I’m rating Linkito as Buzzed.
ORIGINALITY
Linkito is an interesting game because it doesn’t really feel unique, but it definitely is. The use of tried and true aesthetics gives the game a lot of context and makes you feel like you’re playing something familiar, but I’ve not seen many games attempt this style of puzzle before. The puzzles themselves are where the game shines, adding a unique logic element and a level of difficulty that makes the game feel challenging. This combined with the overall story and design creates a game that feels familiar yet unique, in the best possible way. So, for originality, I’m rating Linkito as Buzzed.
THE FINAL BREW
Linkito is a challenging logic puzzle-based game that really packs a punch in terms of both difficulty and variety. There’s a huge range of different puzzles to play through, and the ability to create your own and play others designed by those in the community really expands the gameplay
We’ve brewed this game down, and the final taste test reveals a Buzzed recommendation.
